Tutorial: Beach Waves

Today I’m talking beach waves! My hair has natural curl to it and doesn’t play very nicely with the humidity, so when it comes to warmer weather, I’m all but forced to go with a wavy look. Luckily for my hair, my days of ironing it (sometimes with an actual clothes iron) are long behind me and I’m working with what I’ve got. This look requires minimal styling time and products, making it perfect for vacations and anytime you want some extra sleep in the morning!

Start with a shampoo and condition combo that suits your needs; if your hair is colour treated or damaged from heat styling, a repairing duo is likely in order. These days I love Living Proof’s restore line; it heals damaged strands, softens hair, and detangles. Once you’ve applied conditioner, brush hair with a wide tooth comb before rinsing.

Gently blot (don’t rub!) hair with a towel to remove excess moisture. Let your hair air dry until slightly damp. Apply Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray; infused with salt, it adds beachy texture, body, and gives a light and matte hold.

Let your hair finish drying naturally, or blow dry using a diffuser. If needed, touch up odd looking pieces with a curling wand. Resist the urge to attack any flyways – a little frizz is okay and keeps the look natural. Beach hair is meant to be imperfectly perfect!
