Renovations are in full swing over here, and I’ve been busy finalizing the details of our kitchen. We tore all of the existing elements out, right down to the flooring, and started from scratch. In the face of so many decisions (floors, colours, finishes…) I started gathering inspiration via Pinterest (follow me here!) and magazines, and I found that the look I was going for had three consistent qualities. Check them out below, as well as some of my favorite guiding images.

Light + Airy (with a hint of black)

When it comes to interiors, just like my fashion preference, I’m drawn to light and airy colour schemes balanced with a touch of black. I decided on grey flooring with our white shaker cabinets, and a glossy white subway tile backsplash in a herringbone pattern.

Traditional + Contemporary

I love a mix of modern and classic elements, so pairing this modern Saarinen tulip inspired table and ghost chairs with a classic chandelier was the the perfect match in my books. I love the classic shape of these Louis ghost chairs, finished in a contemporary high gloss black. I plan on balancing sleek stainless steel appliances and hardware with classic patterns (like these striped dish towels).

Touches of Warmth

Wood details, like this cutting board, and an indoor herb garden will help to warm up the cool colour scheme and keep things feeling inviting.
